Colorful Laundry/Storage Area

Since I have been a bit low on the creative juices lately, I thought I would give you a little tour of our little laundry/storage area.  About two years ago, after leaving my full time job, I decided to turn our dingy, unorganized laundry closet into something a bit more fun.  Below are a few photos of the closet doors closed.  The closet is located in our eat-in kitchen:

Pretty non-descript, wouldn't ya say?  Well, after going through the attic and pilfering baskets, bins, rugs, towels, a shower curtain, trays, pictures, and a table top, here is what that dingy little closet looks like now:

It's just a bit colorful, no?  ;-)  Please excuse the overfull baskets and bins.  Another serious purge is required very soon...
I recently picked up the round white tray on the clearance rack at Target and it is perfect to corral the laundry detergent, vinegar and dryer sheets.  I have a plan to gussy up my containers with some DIY labels, I'll update you on that later...

I also made use of this drawer from an old Ikea unit to corral smaller items such as clothespins, a DIY sewing kit and a ceramic box for lost buttons:

I was also given an entire container of old Brighton tins by my Brother who was renovating a jewelry store and saved them from the land fill.  I drilled holes in the tops, inserted hooks, spray painted them all white and made magnetic labels for each.  They are great little storage space savers when dangling on an old rug I turned into a "peg board" of sorts.  It's a workhorse in this little laundry area holding glues, tools, first aid, you name it:

This closet is also home to the electric hot water heater.  While a necessity, it is quite an eyesore.  Luckily, I also saved the old shower curtain from the last house which was put to good use hiding ye old ugly water heater:

I cannot stress how enjoyable it is to do laundry after updating this area.  Now that the awful front-loader washing machine has been fixed (250 bucks later! Ouch...), I can go back to my previously scheduled laundry program.  I hope you have enjoyed this little tour of our laundry/storage area!  Remember, just because it is a utility area, doesn't mean it has to LOOK like a utility area!  I hope you are all having a great week!!
