Organizing a Reach-In Closet

Happy New Year!  I hope you have all had a wonderful holiday season and are fully committed to making your new year fabulous!  I have already started to work on my diet and exercise regimen again since the holidays completely derailed my best intentions!  ;-)  Hey, I had fun with Family and Friends and that is what truly matters!
Along with the diet and exercise, I realized my closet needed a quick clean-out after receiving some new items to add.  And right about now is where I realize I haven't shown you my closet at all since we moved into the new house!  Geez...  Here is what I started with:

Glorious, isn't it?  Meh...  It required a strong crowbar and hammer to remove all of that mess, including those horrible sliding doors...  After everything was removed, filled and caulked, I primed and painted the entire closet Bistro White by Valspar.  I also installed a ventilated shelving system and created shelving in one corner for my shoe collection:

This closet holds A LOT.  I designed this closet to squeeze every last inch of space out of it.  I was tired of storing my shoes under the bed in rolling bins and sick of rummaging through a drawer for my scarves.  I also cannot stand changing out my closet for the seasons.  All of my clothes and shoes for all seasons fit in this one 6 foot, reach-in closet...  You can probably tell I have some more editing to do.  ;-)  My purses, bags and hats reside on the top shelf and my dresses, sweaters, tops and jackets live on the top bar...

My skirts and pants reside on the lower bar, which is shorter than the top bar allowing for longer hanging dresses in the far left side of the closet.  My athletic/casual shoes and hiking/snow boots live on the floor in clear bins...

I read on another blog (cannot remember which) that using child size hangers for pants left more visual space to see what was on the floor.  It does work nicely!
My scarves and belts are now much more visible, so I use them more often...

Thanks to Hubby for the new doors!  More on those later...  I simply used 3M hooks and S hooks to double my scarf storage on both doors.
Now for the shoes!  My favorite!  :-)  With the adjustable shelving standards and supports, it was simple to cut standard white shelving to size and create a corner wonderland of shoe happiness!

I also bought a few letter trays from Ikea (Kvissle) to organize flats and sandals.  They work great and are metal so they hold up to wear and tear...
Boots are on the lower shelves and the floor...

Yeah, I need to do some more shoe editing for sure...  LOL!
It took a while, but Hubby did get new doors installed for me per my specifications.  Since the little Ikea stool stays put at all times (#shortladyissues), I wanted the doors to articulate and open around it.  He made it happen!

I still need to paint the doors, but I was so excited to finally HAVE closet doors that I decided that could wait.  :-D  Hey, I have all winter to do it!  I hope you have enjoyed my little closet tour!
