For the library corner of the studio, I had to be very ruthless in cutting down the books we had collected. It was not easy for me! It took a week of healthy sorting and soul searching, but now we are down to this:

In our last house, we had plenty of room for all of our books, but in this house space is limited. The chillin' corner of the studio provided a perfect place to house and display our favorite volumes and some fun collectables. However, we first had to pare down the sheer number of books we've (I've) been hoarding! Don't get me wrong, Hubby does like to read, but I have always been the big reader/book hoarder. I also become very attached to books like they are a part of my family. I know, I'm weird... :-) Let me give you an idea of how much books mean to me: For our anniversary one year, Hubby hunted down an original copy of one of my favorite books from childhood, The Doll of Lilac Valley... I must have cried for 45 minutes when I opened that present! Yeah, he's a keeper... I swear I checked that book out of my school library almost every week! I still can't believe he found a copy! For the library corner of the studio, I had to be very ruthless in cutting down the books we had collected. It was not easy for me! It took a week of healthy sorting and soul searching, but now we are down to this: That little bookcase in the corner holds a surprising amount of books! It is just a cheap little bookcase from Target that has served us well over the years. It has been a vanity, a night stand and a bookcase. Not that you can tell, but some of those shelves are 2 books deep! Ha! The above pic to the left is the top of the bookcase. It holds my Tolkien volumes and an incredible piece of sculpture by my Uncle. He reminded me of the Ents in Lord of the Rings, so he fits in perfectly! Yes, I am a total nerd... On the right are two views of the larger wall shelves. So sad that my Douglas Adams collection is done. He was a great satirical writer, may he rest in peace. Of course, the Harry Potter books deserved their own shelf! Our friend gifted the handsome, carved onyx head to my husband. He's just cool and is vaguely reminiscent of Voldemort, no? On the right, are just a few of my Dune books. Naturally, no one will ever write like Frank Herbert, but his son and Kevin J. Anderson did an honorable job of rounding out the Dune universe. The butterflies were purchased in Key West on my 30th birthday. I have also been creating shadow boxes for each of our trips for many years. We are up to 7 and I still have not done one for Italy! There isn't much wall space left in this house, so perhaps the scrapbook will have to suffice. ;-) Thanks for letting me share our cozy little library corner!
Peace, Love and Books! Cheers! M J
