It finally happened! My friend and I were at the local thrift shop and there it was. A small, smelly, dirty office chair just asking for some love. How much? Wait for it... $5!! Score!! Unfortunately, (or fortunately - it was pretty gross) I neglected to take a picture of it before I started dismantling it. Oops! I did, however, manage to remember to photograph the pieces after Hubby wire brushed them and before I spray painted them: Let me tell you, that blue seat cover reeked! So did the foam, so out they went. I found a memory foam pillow that was no longer in use, so that made my tushy happy! I also had a faux Ikea sheepskin lying around and thought that would make a cute cover. I used Rustoleum Universal Metallic paint in flat nickel to paint the parts. Here she is peeking out from behind the desk and our other awesome 50's Steelcase office chair: And here at her new home next to the desk wall: Here is her backside - she's one sexy little chair... Apparently, her name is Cramer. Hmmm, maybe she is a he and his first name is Cosmo?? Ha! Either way, Cramer fits quite nicely in her new spot and Hubby has the handsome Steelcase to call his own on the other side of the desk. She is so comfy, she reminds me of the chair dogs from Frank Herbert's Dune book series. (Ok, sorry for the vague reference, but any self-respecting Dune aficionado will know exactly what I'm talking about!) Here is one last shot of Cramer in her new home: One more project down! I have been looking for a second office chair for months. You never know when you will find something when you least expect it. Don't pass up a piece with potential just because it's run-down and smelly - look beyond the yuck. Cramer is proof that a little spray paint and some elbow grease can work wonders!
