Ok, I showed you the rest of the studio, but have neglected to get great photos of the desk/storage wall. I was feeling like it was just too busy, but I also love everything on this wall. I have styled & styled & restyled the shelves and surfaces and this is where they are now:
I know, that is A LOT of stuff! However, if you look at each area on its own, it works. Everything has its purpose and everything is functional as well as pleasing to the eye. Well, to my eye anyway! The gold unicorn was a gift from a beloved Great Uncle, now deceased. He made that unicorn with his own 2 hands and I may or may not have another one in mother of pearl glaze… ;-) Oh, I was SUCH an 80’s kid… Nevertheless, I love him. The flying pig was an iron yard ornament we’ve had for years. I cleaned him up and sprayed him gold, so cute! Ok, one more… See the little robo-cat next to the printer? My Dad bought that little music-playing kitty for me years ago, but I don’t use him anymore. He was black plastic, but he got some gold lovin’ as well and he stays! Can you see a theme? Sentimental gold animals. Maybe I need therapy. Again… LOL! Anywho... Here is a view of the entire desk wall:
From left to right…
The dresser holds the printer, paper, crafting & sewing supplies, my Silhouette machine, and various/sundry other items. It holds a lot. The bins under the desk surface hold scrapbooking and jewelry making supplies. Office supplies are stored in pretty boxes on the shelves above. The storage unit to the right holds photography equipment, acrylic paints, watercolors, brushes and painting supplies. It also houses my décor books and, ahem, my collection of Ikea catalogs going back to the year 2000. Yes, I have 14 years worth of Ikea catalogs. Don’t judge…

Above is a view of the desk area with our his and hers office chairs. We can sit cozily here with our laptops and work together. It is so nice to look up from the screen and see my Hubby sitting there with me. Never before have we had this kind of space to work. The cabinet is actually an old Ikea dining room piece we’ve had since 1998. It is pine and had yellowed to a not-so-attractive hue. We took off the doors then Hubby painted the cabinet the wall color and the backing a pretty aqua. The desk is just a cheap Ikea table top with adjustable legs on one end. The other end rests on the stable, stationary shelf of the cabinet. I am so thrilled that we were able to re-purpose some furniture pieces that we already had. The desk lamp is the oh-so-popular Ranarp from Ikea. What can I say, sometimes things are popular for a reason. That lamp is gorgeous.
Above the small storage unit is a pendant light I pieced together myself. I cannibalized an old Ikea light for the fixture & cord, found an old bracket to hang it from the wall, bought the glass hurricane piece from the thrift shop, and covered the cord in black and white houndstooth ribbon. All it needs now is that Edison bulb from my previous thought bubble the other day…
Above the printer station, I stuck some Command hooks to the wall and strung twine between them for a bulletin board of sorts. With a pack of mini clothes pins, it is a great place to keep current calendars, reminders, invites, tickets, etc. The glass shelf and frosted glass light are also very old, from Ikea. Big surprise…
The little unicorn plaque is from my childhood. That saying is always in my mind when I am creating or decorating. It is a rare gift to be able to visualize a finished product or room before even beginning the work and I am thankful to whatever genetics produced that characteristic in myself! It is also thanks to my Momma for always encouraging me to be confident in my choices and to forgive myself if something doesn't work out as I had envisioned.
This is my favorite vignette - Me & Hubby, a photo I took at Monet's garden in Giverny, and our Raven boy. This is my happy place for sure! Thanks for taking this little tour of our desk/storage wall. Have a great day!
