Are you feeling the spring cleaning vibe hitting you yet? I am, but darn if I just don't have the time to deep clean the walls and floors at the moment... Hehe...
Have a great weekend Everyone!
Cheers!

Along with changing some decor in the living room, I realized the front door needed a change as well! I scrounged up an old springy wreath that the previous owners left over the mantel. I put it up and it was just plain ole boring! As I usually do, I decided to add a banner denoting Spring. This time I opted to use my Silhouette to create a small banner: Using some scrapbook paper and twine, I had a simple, pretty banner to tie onto the wreath: I love the colors, so refreshing for spring. Oh, and I love a quick, easy project! ;-)

One of my new favorite things is when I receive my Happy Mail each month! A Beautiful Mess does a monthly subscription for a wonderful assortment of cards, tags, and just down-right cute stationary. Happy Mail is only $15/month for a year's subscription and so worth it. I haven't bought a card in a few months now. Seriously, you could spend more than that on only three cards at the store... Here is a pic of the March Happy Mail: There are nine cards, a cute shopping list pad, neon gift tags, tabs for your planner and an 8X10 with a wonderful quote from Maya Angelou. Try getting all that at the store for 15 bucks! These ladies always inspire me, so if you are interested, check it out here. (By the way, I'm not getting paid for advertising or anything, I just genuinely love the Happy Mail. And why not spread the Happy, right??) I hope you are having a great week!
Cheers! M J I'm not sure about you, but I enjoy a bit of humor in my home. I thought it would be cute to put a cheeky little sign on the back of the commode to give our guests a little chuckle! I used trusty ole' PowerPoint for this project: I just created a 4 X 6 blue rectangle, added some word art, added a reflection for the underpants and voila! Cheeky little signage! Here it is in action: Pretty funny, huh? I've actually had a good friend of mine crack up in the bathroom and say it was great to get a compliment about her underpants! LOL!
Hopefully, this will inspire you to incorporate some cheeky humor into your home. After the last few days, I'll take any humor I can! I hope everyone is having a wonderful week. Cheers! M J While browsing the Dollar Spot at Target this morning, I came across the cutest office supplies: Man, am I a sucker for cute stationary or what?? ;-) The folders prompted me to give our little Command Center in the Studio a bit of an upgrade. The old folders were getting a little worn around the edges anyway. If you didn't see the desk wall of the studio before, you can find that in this post here. Below is our bulletin board/printer station/command center: You can see the three wall pockets hanging on the shelving unit on the right. This is our command center for paying bills, printer supplies and the "to be scanned/filed" paperwork: It just felt like it needed a bit of spiffying up... Is that a word? Spiffying? Whatever, it's Friday and I'm late getting this post up! :-) Below is the command center with the new folders and some pretty new washi tape: Cute right? This system works great for the Hubby and I. He takes care of paying most of the bills and I am in charge of scanning and filing paperwork in the spiffyed up file storage ottoman. Again, is spiffyed a word? Again - whatever, sooooo glad it's Friday! LOL!
Have an absolutely awesome weekend Everyone! Cheers! M J Sooooo, if you saw my post last Friday here, you already know what I did this weekend... :-) Yep, I upgraded the file storage ottoman! After a quick trip to Staples, I had myself a brand spanking new hanging file frame and bright, cheery file folders. And, YES, I do know I get way too excited about organizing things, don't judge... Here is the metal hanging file frame I used: I had to enlist Hubby to break the rails to the proper length since my hands are giving me so much pain again... The joys of arthritis abound, sigh. That didn't stop me from screwing this thing together and fitting it perfectly into the ottoman: Easy peasy! Here it is all filled with my sunny new folders: Emptying the ottoman also gave me the chance to vacuum it out and dispose of some unnecessary items. Of course, I couldn't just use the plain ole' labels that came with the folders, could I?? No way! I grabbed my washi tape collection and went to town: Just look how happy those files are now! I think my monthly filing will be much more enjoyable from now on, which means my filing may actually BE "monthly" instead of "bi-annually"... LOL!
Have a great rest of the week! Cheers! M J I'm taking a break today from the decor posts to make a little confession about my scrapbooking procrastination. I had all the best intentions at the beginning of 2014 to document the entire year in one 12" X 12" scrapbook: Yeah, here's the story alright... I started out great: ...Then I stopped around about April. Awesome. I have given myself the deadline of finishing this 2014 scrapbook by this April. So far, I've gotten all the way to July 2014: I realized while trying to cram so much of our awesome summer into this book, that I could (most of the time) fit 2" X 3" photos of the entire month on one page. This may help me get through 2014 by my self-imposed deadline. I hope. :-) Five more months to go... Urgh... Meanwhile, 2015 had started already and I vowed not to let this same mess hit me next year. So I ordered a 4" X 4" mint scrapbook from A Beautiful Mess, one of my all time favorite blogs... If I can't finish this tiny thing in 2015, I have a real problem! I also ordered extra page inserts and got started filling them up while working on the 2014 scrapbook. A Beautiful Mess also inspired me to take the year by the week, highlighting life one week at a time... Week one was pretty bad for all of us in this abode, hence this little addition: :-) We were all in such a funk that there were hardly any pictures taken! So I added a photo of the winter mantel, something that makes us all happy. The next four weeks were spent recovering from that first week and just trying to enjoy life... I have to admit, this tiny album is so much easier to keep up with! I am already on this current week and am ready to do some journaling: Do any of you scrapbook your year? Or do you keep the scrapbooking for special events and vacations? I have mostly done scrapbooks for vacations and trips in the past, but since we haven't been able to travel for the past few years, it seemed only logical to document our year. Besides, we live in our vacation home now so everyday should feel like a vacation, right?
(Yeah, right!) ;-) I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend and a very Happy Valentine's Day! I think you know what I'll be working on this weekend... Sigh... Cheers! M J Ok, by the title of this post, you already know my glue gun will have a starring role yet again. You all must be thinking, "Most of her house has to be held together by hot glue!"... Well, you wouldn't be far from the mark, but I also use E6000 glue as well! :-) Hehe... Anywho... Remember the little reading area in our bedroom? Well, that little lamp on the three-tier table was a cheapo lamp from Ikea that I attacked with gold spray paint and my low temp glue gun. Here is a before and after: As you can see, the original lamp was just flat black, which goes great with our French decor in the kitchen, but not so great with the new bedroom decor. Soooo... I taped off the lamp & lampshade, toted them outside and sprayed them both with my favorite gold spray paint. Of course that wasn't good enough, so I decided to glue on some wooden buttons that I found in my Hubby's woodworking supplies: I love how different the gold spray paint looks on the metal of the lamp and the cloth of the lampshade. I also love how the wood grain on the buttons gives just the right detail without being too ostentatious. They also pick up on the wood of the window blinds just behind... The little hanging ceramic bird was found at a local junk/estate shop for 25 cents. He was just too darling to pass up! Now the lamp is just right for this little spot and gives the perfect glow in the evening, especially with that gold gleaming!
I hope you are all having a wonderful week! Cheers! M J I mentioned in my Master Bedroom Makeover post here that I would talk about a few of the DIY projects that I did to complete that makeover. Today I would like to tell you how I turned a plain, beveled mirror into the sunburst mirror over our bed: We had that oval mirror in the attic from the other house and I had fallen in love with all of the star and sun burst mirrors I had been seeing everywhere. Instead of buying one, I decided to DIY one. I bought a few packages of bamboo BBQ skewers, grabbed my cutters and low temp glue gun, sat in front of the TV and got to work: After a few hours of cutting, placing and gluing, I had an oval sunburst mirror! All that was left to do was cover & tape off the mirror and spray paint the points and edges gold. Now we have a beautiful mirror that is, to be honest, a bit terrifying. If this thing ever fell off that wall, good luck to whatever/whoever is under it! Luckily, my hubby suggested using industrial strength glue to attach pieces of lumber to the back and then hung it with heavy duty frame hardware and wall anchors. It also has a ton of 3M picture hanging strips holding it to the wall. If we move anytime soon, that thing may be staying with the house... ;-)
Happy Friday! Enjoy your weekend! Cheers! M J Ok, only one more post about the laundry area, I swear! ;-) I just thought I would show you a little detail of my DIY Sewing Kit that I put together specifically for this area: Having to lug out my huge sewing box from the studio when I only need to sew on a button or tack a hem seemed too laborious to me, especially when I'm just trying to get the laundry done. I tend to keep (hoard, doh!) empty containers, jars, bottles, etc. Hey, you never know when they will come in handy! This is one instance where my pack-rattiness paid off! I happened to have an International Coffee tin that turned out to be perfect for this little project: All it needed was a pin cushion top and some scrapbook paper goodness. I broke out my trusty glue gun and got to work with items from my craft stash. I covered the plastic lid with batting and a piece of scrap fabric using my low temp glue gun. (I wouldn't recommend using a true hot glue gun on these lids, it would melt right through!) I then glued on some coordinating scrapbook paper and Voila! Cute, useful container. Of course, I HAD to add a label. (My labeling obsession continues...) Next I raided the big sewing box and chose a few items to complete the kit: I also found a tiny Altoids box that is the perfect size for needles! (YAY for hoarding containers!) A few choice thread colors, some miscellaneous buttons, a thimble and a measuring tape from Ikea help round out the kit. Oh, and I cannot forget to mention my folding fish scissors! I have had these forever and I think they used to be in my tackle box when I was a kid. I think...
Maybe a bit more detail than you needed for a simple sewing kit, huh? ;-) Have a great rest of the week! Cheers! M J The other day I showed you our Colorful Laundry/Storage Area here. Well, I did get around to cutting spiffy new adhesive vinyl labels for my laundry containers with my Silhouette machine! I chose action words to describe each container in the hopes it would keep me moving through my weekly laundry program: I simply removed the labels from the detergent & vinegar bottles and cleaned them with some rubbing alcohol. I found the perfect square, clear plastic container for the dryer sheets and an unused soap pump for the stain remover. I also included my handy stain remover brush on the tray for that odd stain you missed on your shirt after too much wine at dinner... Who me?? Never!! ;-) This font is called "Forte" and it's so casual and fun, fitting for the crazy-colorful laundry area! I'm a sucker for a good label, ask anyone that has been in our house... Ha!
Happy Friday to you all! I hope you have a wonderful weekend! Cheers! M J |
